Trailer Brake / Trailer Brake Controller
  • As the name implies, the trailer brake controller helps control the braking of the trailer that is being pulled by a towing vehicle.
  • The controller engages the trailer's braking system & coordinates it with the towing vehicle's braking system.
  • The in-cabin module is connected to the towing vehicle's computer and allows for "on-the fly" settings:

  • The in-cabin module can be located in different spots, depending on the controller, where it fits best in the towing vehicle, or the driver's preference.

  • Usually located somewhere within arm's length of the driver

OEM Vs. Aftermarket
  • If the trailer brake controller can be visibly verified as aftermarket, then it should be valued from the amps sheet.
  • Trailer brake controllers are sometimes found in NADA as standard or optional.
    • These, of course, should not be valued as aftermarket but as OEM:
