Summary
Symptoms

When attempting to scan a barcode by pressing the ADJ/MEMO button, a +/- scale appears instead of the usual scan menu.

EnvironmentFastPhoto - Claimtools - cameras (500SE, 700SE or 800SE)
Cause

The following could all be causes of the error:

  • The memory card is not in the camera.
  • The memory card is not seated correctly in the camera.
  • Camera Memo Options are turned Off (G700SE, G800SE)
  • User has replaced our configured memory card with an aftermarket non-configured SD card.
  • The card has been corrupted.
  • The MTA or template file has been erased or is corrupted.
Resolution

Note: The 500SE model camera can only support up to a 2 GB SD card.  The 700SE can support cards up to 32 GB.  The 800SE can support cards up to 256 GB.
Please verify the camera does not have a larger unsupported SD card.
Refer to the User Guide provided with the camera for further information on specifications.

It is recommended the shop use the Mitchell provided pre-configured SD cards.

Verify the SD card is in the camera and fully seated in place.
                Camera will show in the LCD screen “SD” in the top right corner.
                If the camera shows “IN” in the LCD screens top corner the SD card is not being read.
                If possible, swap SD cards with a working camera to determine if the issue is a camera setting or an invalid configuration on the SD card.
 
(G700SE and G800SE ONLY).
If the SD card DOES show the barcode options in another camera, verify “Camera Memo Options” setting is set to On in the the non-working camera.
  1. Turn the camera on.
  2. Press the Menu/OK button.
  3. Press the left arrow 1 time.
  4. Press the down arrow to MEMO.
  5. Press the right arrow 1 time.
  6. The first option is Camera Memo Options.  Verify the setting shows On.
 
 
Reconfigure the SD card using a known good camera configuration file:

Note: A PC, a working camera and the USB cables provided with the cameras will be needed to configure the cameras.

If the camera is a 500SE you will need to set the camera to Mass Storage USB mode.
  1. Turn the camera on.
  2. Press the Menu/OK.
  3. Press the right arrow 1 time to SETUP
  4. Press the up arrow 5 times to USB CONNECTION
  5. Press the right arrow to change the setting from ORIGINAL to MASS STR. (500SE ONLY)
  6. Press the Menu/OK to save setting.
 
Copying the working configuration.
  1. On the Workstation, open the Computer to show available drives and note the drives that are currently showing.
  2. Have the customer plug in the camera that CAN read barcodes into the PC using the USB cables supplied with the camera. If a shop cannot locate the supplied USB cables, a card reader or alternative USB cable may be required.
  3. Open the Removable drive that appeared after the camera was plugged in.
  4. Right click on the folder named TEMPLATE and Select Copy.
  5. Right click on the PC desktop and select Paste.
  6. Unplug the working camera and plug in the camera (or SD card) that can NOT scan a barcode.
  7. Open the Removable drive that appeared after the camera was plugged in.
  8. Rename the folder named TEMPLATE to Old-Template.
  9. Right click on the TEMPLATE folder on the PC desktop and select Copy.
  10. Open the Removable drive from the Computer.
  11. Right click in that drive and select Paste.  A new TEMPLATE folder will now show next to the Old-Template folder.
  12. Unplug Camera from PC.

Test the camera by attempting to scan a barcode.
