SummaryWindows updates KB2918614 and KB3072630 prevent Mitchell Estimating updates from running properly on Windows 2003 servers.
Symptoms
This article applies only to machines running Windows 2003 Server.

User tries to run an update and gets the following message:

Mitchell Estimating has been corrupted and Setup cannot determine if any workstations are currently using Mitchell Estimating or ServiceMate. Close these applications on all workstations, and then remove (uninstall) Mitchell Estimating using the Add/Remove Programs on your Windows Control Panel. Refer to the Prerequisites section of the Installation Guide for folder security permissions and share permissions, update them as needed, and then reinstall Mitchell Estimating.

Setup cannot proceed and will exit.

Click Ok and the update cancels, Ultramate is left functional but not updated.
Environment
Cause
There are currently two known Microsoft security updates that affect Windows 2003 servers and their ability to run installs or updates of Mitchell Estimating. 
The two security updates are:
KB2918614 that was originally released Aug 2014 & 
KB3072630 that was released in July 2015
Resolution
To fix this, both Windows updates will need to be removed 

Steps to removethe two Microsoft KB updates: 
1. From the server, go to Windows Control Panel and open Add or Remove Programs.
2. Enable the option at the top to show updates. 
3. Locate the update for KB2918614 and remove it. If you get a message showing several programs might not work if the update is removed, click the appropriate option to continue.  (note this update may have previously been removed)
4. If prompted to reboot the server, enable the option to not reboot now and continue. 
5. Locate the update for KB3072630 and remove it. If you get a message showing several programs might not work if the update is removed., click the appropriate option to continue.  (note this update may have previously been removed)
6. If prompted to reboot the server, enable the option to reboot later and continue. 
7. Run the update.

Once the update completes, it is suggested to reboot the server otherwise other programs might not work properly.
Microsoft ended support for Windows 2003 Server July 14, 2015.
Mitchell no longer tests products on Windows 2003 Server.
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 is no longer a supported Operating System for Mitchell products
